Plot-8 short films from the mind of Patrick Rea.
Review-I found out about Patrick Rea on a website about a horror festival that was coming. I heard all this fan reaction to his shorts. I was like ok, I have to see this for myself. I went into this blind and thank god. I put in Get off my Porch, which is about a guy who just wants to relax, and someone knocks at his door. He answers it, and its a girl scout selling cookies. She tells him this speech about why he needs these cookies, and he refuses. So, her friend comes by next. Then, the girls just continue to harass him. Its a fun and decent watch. I was like ok, Now that you’re dead may be fun, lets watch this. It opens with a man and woman fooling around in bed and all of a sudden he hears his wife is coming in the house so his mistress hides in the closet. The wife knows he is cheating on her, and sees someone turning the knob of the closet. So she fires bullets into the closet. And then kills her husband as well. That is all I will tell you. The movie was so fun. It was so dark humored and cruel..I really loved this one. Next was Next Caller. A radio dj who has a show about paranormal, and other things he deems stupid decides to invite a psychic unto the show. When the conversation turns to satan and god and her belief in their existence and his belief that if he cant see it its not real. This one was eerie. I liked the feel and tone of this movie. Then, Do not disturb. A killer is in a hotel room alone. But, is he alone? This was such a nod to Hitchcock. It was scary without being gory or bloody. It was psychological. Next was a short called Torture Porn. Starts off like a Hostel rip off, but this is played for laughs. And, if your a fan of the genre, you will get all the jokes. Esp. the ending. Time’s Up Eve, this was done in b/w. It had a 50′s sci fi horror feel to it. It was about these shadow people who when you gather up souls, they take them from you. I liked this one alot. It was such a throwback to masterpiece theater, and stuff I grew up on.
Then, Paint Shaker. A disgruntled ex employee comes back to his job with a gun. Very bloody and violent. Alot of dark humor moments. It was good. And the last one and the weakest of the bunch was Mrs Brummett’s Garden. An elderly couple, the woman talks to garden fairies, and the husband thinks she has lost her mind, and he wants to put her in a nursing home and the fairies want her to join them. This had a few good moments, but it was just too slow and done that before feel.
I am not sure about dvd availability, I do know the shorts are playing a series of festivals. If you are old school Twilight Zone or Tales from the Crypt fans, you will love these. You owe it to yourself to at least see one Patrick Rea short.
All 8 as a whole..9 out of 10
