PRISONER EXCHANGE AT BANNON’S LOOKOUT
“We’re Here…Now Show Me My Daughter”
A nine year old little girl has been missing for three days. Her parents receive an unusual instruction, to go to BANNON’s LOOKOUT. There are no clues as “Who or WHAT” took the child. On the third day, a reporter and her cameraman tag along, to the location with the young girls’ parents.
At BANNON’s LOOKOUT and exchange is made and a surprise double-cross orchestrated by the father garners a surprise reaction, from his daughter, Maggie. When asked why she was crying, she explained that the beings that had taken her, so they could protect her, “From the ones that chased me.”
In less than ten minutes, Patrick Rea’s story, made me curious, annoyed with the reporter and her “Emmy” hungry machinations, to a state of shock and awe. Cool music sets the mood and the being in the woods is shown in what I call “pieces”. In this instance the kidnapper’s arm is shown. What could be shocking about an arm? The type of arm shown had me… gasping and the abrupt ending left me speechless! And as with the majority of short-films I am seeing of late…left me wanting more!
This movie is filmed at nighttime and at times it’s annoying (to me), with trying to see the beings in the woods, but adds to the mystery of what they are, so I can’t fault the film for that. I am just persnickety when it comes to films shot in the dark. PRISONER AT BANNON LOOKOUT is yet, another short-film, where I am continually pleasantly surprised with the handling of the film’s story. And I have many more short-films to review from this sharp writer/director. 3 out of 5.
