DOLL BOY
“Welcome to the Playhouse from Hell”
“Raising Hell”
All the way from Odessa, Texas…giving a GREAT BIG “HELL YEAH” is Bloody Bill Pon’s DOLL BOY! This is the short-film of the week! For the Horrorphiliacs out there, who love GRINDHOUSE, DOLL BOY is a wicked sweet treat!
About a week ago, while perusing facebook, I lucked up on a cool picture of DOLL BOY and clicked on the trailer…instant goose bumps are a sure sign of something that, I would like to see some more! Tuesday morning the screener arrived and I was so excited, I ripped envelope open and once I laid eyes on the DOLL BOY sitting on the cover, I couldn’t wait to get it in the computer and watch it! BUT seeing how it was the first day back since the weekend…book customers were streaming in steady. So I had to put DOLL BOY aside. I watched him Wednesday evening after work and let me tell you…it was worth the wait!
One thing I learned right off the bat from watching a Bloody Bill Pon production, you do not eat something that resembles the gore on the screen. Yep, I was eating a strawberry jam and peanut butter sandwich. And just getting past the previews, I felt my gorge rise and after the 2nd kill…let’s just say…I had to stop watching and clean up my desk. Thank You Bloody Bill or I should actually extend that thank you, to DEF-CON FX…great job!
Finished watching the movie and then backed it up and watched it again. Not believing what I had seen and afraid my upset had caused me to miss something but after twenty seven minutes…I had a case of good old-fashioned Goosebumps. What is DOLL BOY? I will give you a glimpse then, it is up to you, go to www.bloodybill.com and find out how, you can get your eyes on DOLL BOY.
“Here are the clowns, they are such fun”
A group of Texans are bound and gagged in the back of a windowless van, being driven by a man with a clown face. The contents of the van, tell me, that this man went out of his way, to acquire his hostages. He passes many cars and even the police with nary a notice from the vehicles driving all around him. He parked behind an empty building with the faded painted name LA Guadalupana (a Tex-Mex flea market). One by one he unloaded his unwilling passengers and the last person in the van, had me tear up…a child…a little girl who was in full scream mode. Her mother permanently ripped from her life and left alone to face a smiley face clown.
Dragged and ushered and into the darkened building Smiley, who later, I saw was credited as being Noodledome the Clown. He turned and left the bewildered group, in the darkness to acquaint themselves with their new surroundings. The building can best be described as a “Nasty ass place”. I shudder to think, what happened, to the child in the van.
“That psycho cabbage patch dude”
A hysterical mother frantically searched for her child and ran head long into a man dressed as school boy with white shirt, tie and shorts with suspenders. This man-boy was wearing a porcelain doll’s face mask and carrying a big sledge hammer. Before she could get away, he nailed her in the face and then bashed her head in. Scared shitless, the others screamed and scattered like roaches in the dark, as each tried to put as much distance between them and the DOLL BOY.
You do not need me to tell you scene by scene what happened next, but I will say it was bloody and the punishment DOLL BOY dealt was swift and loud like a boom that bounced off the walls as the building filled with terrified men and women ran for their lives from the child-like killer brandishing his own personal justice.
“Don’t Kill Me…Please…Don’t…I just want to go home”
- My thoughts and feelings -
Bloody Bill Pon is a new face to me, but after I watched DOLL BOY for the 5th time, I want to see more from this man and his production team! The DVD starts off with two previews, which I have since learned are fakes. Ha-ha the first one CIRCO MUERTE killer clowns and the second one MISTER FISTER about a guy that gets off, fist punching his way to a woman’s heart…through her lady parts. These two faux previews were extremely bloody and if the truth be told, could sell well with Bloody Bill’s magic touch.
“It’s Him…HIDE!”
Mother of God! This was a fast paced bloody-brain-splattered good film. DOLL BOY has been in this old building long enough to immerse and maneuver himself in the shadows and darkness without any difficulty. There were a few scenes, when he chased the victims, he was walking at a jerky fast clipped pace and he would turn off the same beaten path and take short-cuts known only by someone, who has been there a long time. The building as stated above is without power and the victims are equipped with only flashlights and when the light grazed sections, I could the see filth, dried and fresh blood as well as decayed remains from previous “playmates.” The most shocking remains, I saw was the female skeleton with the skeletal remains of a baby, who must have died in the womb of his mother.
I was able to see glimpses of items strewn about and one room reminded me of a room in WRONG TURN, where the belongings of the people, who were eaten by the mountain men, were stored. DOLL BOY had trophies from his kills as well. Instead of answering the questions forming in my mind, the short left me with many unanswered and a thirst for more, hint, hint…Billy make us a feature length film starring DOLL BOY!
DOLL BOY never spoke and in my last review for THE ORPHAN KILLER, I was thrilled, when that killer not only grunted but spoke. BUT not DOLL BOY and that lead to more questions. The purpose of short-films show what a writer, director, and crew can produce. Well BLOODY BILL PON you done good son…more please!
