The Woman (2011) Movie Review

The Woman (2011)
Directed by Lucky McKee (May)
Reviewer: Chuck Conry
Prologue
The film we are about to review is called, The Woman. It’s apparently a loose sequel to another film called The Offspring. Now since I hadn’t seen The Offspring I had no real clue what this one was going to be like until I just shut up and watched it and now I can say it wasn’t that bad..Not bad at all actually. I’m pretty sure any man hating feminist out there would get a giant kick out of it to be exact. Since all men are evil and we enslave women and all that jazz ya know? That being said I must still admit that I wanted to see the males in this film die in the worst way possible..So, great job!!
The Movie
When a successful country lawyer named, Chris, captures and attempts to “civilize” the last remaining member of a violent clan that has roamed the Northeast coast for decades, he puts the lives of his family in jeopardy. Now you might ask yourself why someone would find a wild woman in the woods and want to keep her. I asked myself this same question as well. Clearly no sane or normal person would want to do such a thing. But as this movie goes from start to finish we seem to notice that Chris and his family aren’t really what most of us would call “normal”.
A movie like this one is a little complex to break down. On one hand you have people doing things that you wouldn’t normally see people do in certain situations. Things just lack real logic. Like for one, how could a jungle woman live in the jungle that long without being noticed? And why would someone who spots her in the woods want to go through the trouble of capturing her and keeping her as a pet of sorts? Well the part about her being in the woods and not being noticed is something we never really clear up. Perhaps I should see The Offspring for that answer? But the other part there becomes fairly obvious as the movie rolls along.
Looking passed that however, we have a film with one of the more interested and unique story lines we’ve seen in some time. Not only is the story very different and somewhat compelling at times. The actors in this thing work great, for he most part, to make everything just seem to flow and work well. Now I must call attention to the teacher of one of Chris’ children in the film. Her line delivery and acting just seemed somewhat off in this. But would you hold it against me if I also said that she was just soo darn cute and likeable anyway that you just don’t care too much? I’m sorry if that’s sexist or makes me sound like a jerk but it’s true. On the other end of that issue, credit MUST be given to Sean Bridgers who plays “Chris” and Zach Rand who plays his son “Brian”. They are very VERY hate-able in this movie and that’s just what they need to be.
As our film unfolds upon our viewing, The Woman, in the film The Woman, played outstandingly by Pollyanna McIntosh who’s soo pretty I’m sure it was hard to make her look savage, just steals the whole thing. She’s never made out to be a bad person, just a survivor taken from her natural habitat. And once the film reaches it’s end you’ll be rooting for her to get her revenge on anyone who might have wronged her in the film. It’s really a lot of fun to see. And to top it off, the whole movie packs a few twists, turns, and surprises to keep things interesting. If you get the chance to see, The Woman, I think you should take it. It’s a pretty cool flick.
The Conclusion
I liked it pretty well. I do kinda wish it got a little bloodier there towards the end, but I think it was just fine for what it was. Not sure it makes me want to backtrack and watch The Offspring anytime soon, but I think you’ll get by just fine having not seen it when it comes to seeing, The Woman. Let this be a big moral lesson to you all that you should never try to capture women you find in the woods.
The Rating (7/10)

Not entirely sure that was any sort of review. You tell us what happened and say it’s a complex film (it is) but offer nothing further?
yeah, what a useless not-review. wtf.
Do you want me to tell you what happens or would you rather watch it yourself? It's a review, not play by play.
FUCK U CONRY.
IF U LIKED THIS SHITE – U HAVE NO TASTE WHATSOEVER.
MY FEMINIST SENSE IS REELING!
Really? What does that even mean, like all feminists are evil. So if you don't think that women are only good for sex and deserve to be locked up I think that makes you… normal maybe? I thought it portrayed a somewhat scarily realistic relationship between the husband and wife. Does that make me a feminist, because I think it's bad that occasionally husbands beat up wives and manipulate them? This may seem blatantly rude, but I don't really understand, you said nothing about the film, except noting that it was written by a feminist and that it was 'shite'. Why did you think it was 'shite'? Because it was overly confronting? I found it almost unwatchable because it continued to push back boundaries and constantly make me uncomfortable but I found it to maintain it's interest because of it's sexual politics.
Mother of SHIT! The man wrote a review. IF we say to much…you bitch, IF we don't say enough you bitch. Coming from someone that didn't even see Offspring, but was able to follow THE WOMAN and write a review, and keep his sense of humour after scathing remarks…Chuck Conry is not a "DIPSHIT" the one that got her feminsit panties in a twist sounds like the "Dipshit". Chuck is usually dead on with his reviews. I like his honesty and restraint from ass kissing and sugar coating. Good Review Chuck.
I'm confused why when a movie features women killing off bad men then people always say it's feminist to the extreme and that "man-haters" will love it but if we see a movie where women are raped, tortured, or killed by a man (pretty much any horror movie ever made) then it's considered normal and no one goes "Oh, they must be anti-feminist or really hate women." Apparently men can watch women being murdered in movies and that's fine but if I watch a movie where women are murdering men then apparently I hate all men and am an extreme feminist.
I'd read my review for the original I Spit On Your Grave before you make judgement on what I call a feminist movie.
why did she kill the mother i dont get it? she didnt harm her in any way earlier on.
I think she did that due to the fact the mother didn't do anything to help her when she had the chance.
Obviously if a woman is a lead in a movie it has to be dumb. We all know women are beneath dogs and don’t deserve the sweat off dogs nuts. This would have been a better movie if we let a dog sodomies the hairy bitch.
Carrie had a female lead and that was a good movie. Halloween had Jamie Lee Curtis, actually 90% of all slashers have female leads or "final girls". I gave the movie a 7, which is a lot better than I give most. Do I think it was one of the years best? No, not really. But I assure you it has nothing to do on if I feel it's a feminist film or not. I think most people just look for a reason to bitch about stuff.
I thought it was an alright film, pollyanna played a hot hard chick… I liked that alot
… My dude did not :/ .. An I loved reading your review chuck…..
Hey i watched this, and was left a bit confused. the woman took the youngest sister off with her but left the pregnant one? I'm entirely missing the point can someone help me out with that ending?
Yeah she wanted to raise the little girl. She didn't want to deal with a pregnant girl. Nothing tricky to it from what I see.
I think she was pointing at Peggy's belly like "here's your baby" and then took the little sister " and this one is mine"
My interpretation of the end was that the woman was inviting the pregnant sister to come with them because of the baby. Remember in the beginning the woman was dreaming about a baby? And if you get around to watching the prequel, the woman's clan took babies and raised them as their own. I think she wanted to start a new clan. The pregnant girl was not left behind… she was seen following. But it was her choice, which I think is significant.
Exactly. The mother was a collaborator in the abuse suffered by her daughters and then by the woman. She may not have liked it, but she did nothing to stop it. She let one of her daughters be raised in a dog kennel for pete's sake. She could have put a screwdriver in the guy's ear while he slept anytime over the years. Instead she let him rape and torture her babies.
So is dog sodomy a big turn-on for you? Take your meds and go to sleep.
Your grammar and spelling suck, have you ever thought of using the spelling and grammar check that is a part of any decent word processor available today?
Exactly! it was a choice- i think based on the last bit of the movie — they all went with the woman– and i would imagine to start the new clan of "offspring" What i am confused about is what happened to her baby? at the end of offspring you see the baby didnt die– But in the woman- she doesnt go back and get the baby– she dreams about it.. Maybe she was planning too but got captured first.. for some reason this is bothering me.. and with the mother? yes.. at the end she finally stood up.. but too little to late and also stupid.. i mean the man had turned one of her daughters into a dog- raped the other and keeps a woman in the cellar– she had two options to get out alive.. wait til his back is turned and KILL HIM or RUN.. i didnt really have any issues with her death though.. if this really had been a feminist movie– there would have been no movie, cause the moment he started his crap she would have ended it.. not waitied around for a "savage" woman to come and show her the light. ehh but good review- short and interesting.. i even got a couple laughs.. i enjoyed it.
