Pimp Us To All Your Friends!

Playback (2012)

Writer/Director: Michael A. Nickles
Starring: Johnny Pacar (Zombie Apocalypse, The Dead Undead), Toby Hemingway (Black Swan, The Covenant), Christian Slater

Official Synopsis: While digging into their town’s infamous past, a group of high school students unwittingly unlock an even darker secret. Now, an evil spirit has been awakened and will stop at nothing to find his true heir.

Yawn. This is another one of those unfortunate moments where you realize the trailer was better than the film itself. Either way I figured Slater was desperate to pay his mortgage by being in this snoozer. Maybe it was a favor to Nickles? Who knows.

So yeah. This murder happened in a small town (sound familiar?) the killer video taped it (oooh shaky cam scariness!) then a bunch of kids (who are trying to create their own horror film) start researching it only to get possessed by the killer (via some touch screen possession shit). Throw in Slater as the world’s worst pedo and a “twist” ending and voila! You have a rather boring film. THE END.

No seriously guys – I stopped caring once Slater started taping High School girls in the locker room. The film was nothing new, the gore minimal and the ending predictable.  I think out of everyone’s performance Toby Hemingway was the only one worth watching (and seemed to get better as the film progressed).

Don’t believe me? Check Playback out in theaters March 9th. Don’t say I told you so!
