The Lowdown: A cheesy 80′s horror film that gets on my nerves.
The Story
There are no freshmen in the college of love, and they’re about to graduate to madcap mayhem when a sorority prank goes crazy. Out to steal a trophy from a local bowling alley, the kids accidentally unleash the imp – a sadistic little spirit with a diabolical sense of humor. He creates demons and loves sexy women. He’s the original party animal, inviting you to come along and die laughing – just like everybody else. The Sorority Babes won’t live through initiation, but don’t blame that cute little killer. He’s evil by nature and funny as hell. And even if you can take a joke, it kills you.
My Thoughts
Oh man I wanted to like this film so bad, these cheesy 80′s horror flicks are usually right up my alley, but I just couldn’t get behind it. The movie has a lot of solid ideas but none of them ever come to fruition. For example there is a potentially cool sex scene but it’s drug out for almost half the movie. There are some monster slaves threatening to kill the kids but most of it is showboating b.s. It’s like a 30 min short idea that was drug out into a full length feature.
The movie is not funny. There aren’t any amazing kills, and the story is average at best. If it wasn’t for the fact there was some nice nudity in a few scenes, the movie may be a total waste. I did like the look and feel of it (hey it screams the 80′s,) but I don’t think this is a film I’ll be revisiting very often. It’s an early Full Moon film which I normally enjoy, but this is on the weaker end of the spectrum of their early catalog. I think it may get more credit than it deserves because of the cool title and it stars scream queens Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer. You may get a few moments where you crack a smile, but even with some brew in hand, I don’t think there’s enough to keep your attention. Instead of checking this out, go ahead and throw in your copy of Chopping Mall instead.
